Confidence in Giving

In case you are worried about where your money will go and how you can have confidence in giving, we wanted to be really, really clear (it’s important to us too):

100% of the money you give goes to meet the need that you selected. In the rare case that a need changes before it is fulfilled, your money will go towards another life-changing need but never to our operating costs.

There is great power in changing the life of an individual. You will get updates on how your donation is making a difference.


Management and disbursement of funds.

Your donation will be sent directly to the Field Partner who will manage meeting the need of the recipient including paying any related costs – the individual or family will not be given any money directly. This is to ensure that the need specified is what the money is spent on.

Field Partners must be visited by a representative of Selma’s Story within a 24 month period prior to their application for funding support and are required to provide documentation for review prior to their approval. Download PDF here.

Field Partners guarantee that the money they receive is being used to take care of the need of the individual or family and must maintain all documentation and records related to meeting these needs.


Field Partner Audits.

In order to audit, Field Partners will be visited again by a Selma’s Story representative within 6 months of their first story being funded and then every 24 months thereafter. We want to make sure they are living up to our standards and continue to be upstanding contributors to their communities.

If ever their ability to respond to audit requirements or onsite visits cannot occur as scheduled, their status as a Selma’s Story Field Partner will be placed on hold. Any determination that the Field Partner no longer meets the standards of Selma’s Story will result in their termination.
